Spring 2021 Report

The report of the Spring 2021 Task Force represents the culmination of a semester of research on the intersection of truth-telling with restorative justice, transformative justice, victim-centered approaches, and community ownership. The report is organized around the framework of the intersecting elements of Recognition, Responsibility, and Repair . Furthermore, it concluded that a truth-telling process specific to Los Angeles is key to addressing past and ongoing histories of racial hierarchies and exclusion, and that such a truth-telling process must include significant city government commitment, partnership with Los Angeles' diverse communities, and Restorative Justice practices to facilitate such partnerships.

Summer 2021 Recommendations

Using the research of the Spring 2021 Task Force as a foundation, the Summer 2021 Task Force was charged with producing a series of concrete "first steps," particularly aimed at the city government, for beginning a truth-telling process in Los Angeles. In addition to the research from the Spring, the Summer 2021 recommendations and guiding principles flow from thirty-eight interviews carried out by task force members.
